Van Ministry
A village pastor will usually have dozens of villages within 20 or 30 miles of where he is working, beyond the scope of what he can effectively reach by himself. After a church is established in the village where a pastor is laboring, the ministry in Rameswaram will organize a mobile evangelism team to be sent to that area, for perhaps a week of open-air ministry among the area villages yet unreached. Our new vans are used for taking each team (a handful of disciples) and their equipment to "invade" two to four villages each day. They use music, drama, preaching and video. A simple amplifier is usually employed, and often the whole village will turn out to listen. The outcome is impossible to predict. The disciples may be beaten, stoned or driven out of town, or there may be many hearts open and eager to receive the good news of God's Salvation.
When it is available, a small projector is set up to play a "Life of Jesus" drama, or, recently, "The Passion of Christ". For so many remote villages, where they may have never even seen a motion picture, the effect can be remarkable. During the showing, an evangelist will be explaining the Gospel over a microphone to them. After public ministry, the team will search out those whose hearts have been touched by the Holy Spirit, and also offer to pray for those in need of healing from sickness or affliction. In this way, the pastor in that area can follow up on those who are found to have a hunger for the Word of God, and establish prayer cells and Bible studies in many villages.
For these teams, a dependable van, projector and generator are essential. We are especially in need of diesel vans. We are praying for 100 new vans. BCM has plenty of trained and willing workers to man them, and we are in no danger of running out of villages soon, with about 500,000 villages in India still untouched by the Gospel.
When teams visit from churches in the U.S.A., BCM often arranges for them to join a mobile out reach team for a week, in villages where it is appropriate. The results can be pretty amazing. We have an array of testimonies about this work. If your church is interested in sending a team for short-term ministry in India with BCM, contact us.
