The first time I met “Randy” was in 2008, at a conference in Seoul, South Korea.  That summer we spent a lot of time together, praying for North Korea.  Randy is a Korean-American from Tucson, Arizona.  When he was converted to Christ, he sold everything he had and gave it to the poor.  For a while he lived with homeless people, and led many of them to Christ.  It has been in the past few years that the Lord laid North Korea on his heart, and it is his conviction that the situation in North Korea will change when we, the church, pray unceasingly to God for NK’s liberation.  For the past couple of years, Randy has been urgently imploring the worldwide Christian community to prioritize intercession for NK.   His preaching is matched by his life, and I know that he consistently spends several hours a day praying for North Korea.  What are the results of all these prayers?

In 2009 Randy traveled to China.  Before coming to China, his thoughts were to spend one month praying for North Korea and to get involved as the Lord led.  What happened next, and what is continuing now was not Randy’s plan, but God’s plan.  On the first day he got to China, he met with several North Koreans, and one of them was profoundly touched by the gospel – Brother Kay.  Brother Kay said that he had previously visited a registered church in China, but he didn’t feel anything when he went there.  For one month Randy discipled brother Kay in the teachings of Jesus,  and refuted many of the lies that North Koreans have been taught by their government.  Within two months, brother Kay read the entire New Testament, and he was baptized as a Christian in an undisclosed location in China.  In addition, Randy shared the gospel with about 35 other North Koreans.  Some of them live in China, however, most of them were brought out temporarily by brother Kay specifically to meet Randy and to hear the gospel.  Most of the 35 are now back in North Korea or will be returning.  They return with new life, bibles, and much needed cash that will sustain their families and communities.

Randy and brother Kay are establishing “micro orphanages” in North Korea.  The orphanages are not approved by the government, and so they must be done in a very discreet manner.  If an official notices that someone is taking care of 5 – 10 children, they will suspect something.  In a “micro orphanage,” homeless children are taken from the streets and placed 2 or 3 at a time with a family or an elderly lady.  Food can be purchased on the black market in North Korea by the North Koreans themselves.  In this way the food can go much deeper into the country, and reach into areas where foreign NGO are not allowed access to.  It costs about $24 to feed a North Korean child for one month.

Sometimes when amazing things happen we have a hard time believing whether it is really true.  This happened at the time of the apostle Paul’s conversion.  It wasn’t until Barnabas vouched for Paul that the church accepted him.  I vouch for what is happening through Randy and brother Kay as being genuine.

Brother Kay is daily risking his life.  He is bringing Bibles into North Korea, and bringing people out into China so they can be evangelized and discipled.  Randy offered to take Brother Kay to South Korea, but he refused and said that he will remain in China and NK until North Korea is liberated.  Brother Kay is teaching the North Koreans inside NK how to pray, seek God, trust God, and love God.  The people are repenting.

Please pray daily for brother Kay and the North Korean church.  I ask for you to partner with us in reaching North Korea with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
