India is indeed a far flung land. Although it is only one third the area of the USA, the vast diversity of India’s populace dwarfs that of America. Carrying the Gospel from South India to North India is extreme, something like going from Brazil to Greenland.
From the beginnings in Rameswaram thirty years ago, BCM now has churches being planted and growing in every region of India, touching an array of cultures and languages. In each region, a new generation of young disciples is now emerging as the first fruits of the Gospel, with ears to hear the call of God to reach their own people with the good news of Jesus.
These new Gospel workers are strongly motivated, having themselves so recently been brought out of the shadow of dark despair, into the Light of God’s Word. They all need training, in order to be effective and enduring. Some need improved literacy, discipleship, ministry and evangelism training, and all of them need a season of focused comprehensive Bible instruction….in their own regional language.
Travel by rail is very economical in India; about one dollar per hour. With the facilities now being completed in the Training Center in Rameswaram, and the palpable vision BCM conveys for reaching all of India, our best and most practical option to effectively train these young disciples is to bring them to the Training Center in Rameswaram for a full month of concentrated ministry preparation.
BCM has been bringing them from afar, twenty to fifty at a time, to be trained. They are taught in their own language, as well as exposed to the challenges of going into new villages beyond their own linguistic boundaries. They learn the blessedness of suffering, and the wise faith involved in God’s strategy to turn opposition into opportunity, where it is least expected.
The need for this special regionally adapted training is quickly outpacing us, and young churches in each region wait in eager hope for enough one-time sponsorships, about $150 per disciple for a complete program, for them to come to Rameswaram as a team to be trained for village ministry.
This vision and pattern of BCM regional evangelism training has been growing, one team at a time, for over four years now. As we have resources available for it, the open door for this practical church growth is virtually unlimited.
